Sheriff’s Central Warrant Unit Arrests Alderman Joe Moore Contributor

This is the "developer" who "contributed" Alderman Joe Moore and demolished the Adelphi Theater

Wednesday, March 26, 2014 — Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today that the department’s Central Warrant Unit officers arrested a Chicago man who owes more than $500,000 in past-due child support.

Sheriff’s Central Warrant Unit officers arrested Cedomir Zuric, 52, Friday night after receiving a tip that he was staying at a residence in the 4300 block of North Clarendon Avenue in Chicago.

Zuric owes a total of $555,876 in past due child support payments for three children. A warrant was issued for his arrest in 2008.

Zuric is out of custody after posting a $23,462.24 cash bond.

The Sheriff’s Central Warrant Unit handles the execution of arrest warrants for child support, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, police fugitives, and electronic monitoring fugitives.

Public Meeting: Common Sense, Common Good

This evening Rogers Park residents and others from the 49th Ward met, showing a unity rarely seen. They were at Willye B. White Park to fight charter schools coming into the neighborhood. 
It has been reported that Alderman Joe Moore had planned to be at this event, but those there are more than aware he was not.
Those in the crowd marched toward the 49th Ward Alderman's home, chanting "Save our schools", and when his door was knocked upon and his house surrounded by the community and media, his house remained eerily quiet.
A 14 year old boy who attends Gale School spoke of the hope that is brought on by seeing his seniors graduate and being elected into the presidency of  student run boards. 
It is reported that Alderman Joe Moore's Chief of Staff, Michael Land, drove by to see the on-goings, and when community members tried to speak with him, he drove away.

I first heard about this event while going through our collective e-mails looking for things to do and events to attend that signify things we find important. In my e-mail, we found out that this was an upcoming event. Here is some information from that e-mail about tonight's event:
"Hi Bill:

This meeting includes parents and teachers from Gale Elementary, north of Howard St. in Rogers Park. Even though our school didn't make the list for closure it met CPS criteria of being just shy of 50% full.  Although the school got a reprieve this time, we know that the charter schools are always a threat to the neighborhood public school.  Our reasons for opposing charters are in the press release below.

Ald. Joe Moore is signed onto the city council resolution calling for a moratorium on charter schools, but we believe this moratorium is a red herring because it is non-binding and stuck in the rules committee.  We are seeking a commitment from Moore that he will oppose the expansion of charter schools in the 49th Ward - where is has power over these decisions - regardless of whether the moratorium passes city council.  His support of the moratorium is not an excuse to avoid making this commitment specific to his ward.

With the State of Illinois unable to pay its bills, Chicago Public Schools claiming a $1 billion deficit, and college students facing rising costs, ballooning debt and grim job prospects, five hundred (500) North Side and North Shore residents will gather to demand public policy changes.

Even though no Rogers Park schools are on the CPS school closure list, neighborhood schools are threatened by the expansion of charter schools. With fierce competition for funding often based on test scores, charter schools are incentivized to attract and admit only the best students.  An investigation by Reuters revealed that many charter schools require lengthy application forms, student and parent essays, mandatory family interviews, entrance exams, and even illegally demand Social Security cards and birth certificates.  Charter schools often require parents to cover additional educational costs, an obstacle for poor parents.  Northside P.O.W.E.R. has invited Ald. Joe Moore to attend to answer questions about charter school expansion in the 49^th Ward.

The struggles for those already overburdened continue at institutes of higher learning. Loyola University will increase the cost of its freshman and sophomore meal plans. All undergraduate resident students are required to have a meal plan, yet the cheapest freshman year plan will increased 12%, and the sophomore plan by more than 150% in the 2013-2014 academic year.  More than 100 Loyola students will attend.

State Senator Heather Steans and State Representatives Robin Gabel and Kelly Cassidy will attend. Northside P.O.W.E.R. will ask them to make a public commitment to support corporate tax transparency and to close corporate tax loopholes.

Two-thirds of corporations in Illinois pay no state income tax, and a meager 8% of state revenue comes from corporate income taxes.  Eighty-one (81%) of state revenue comes from personal income and sales taxes. Statistics from the Public Policy Polling, a non-partisan polling firm found that nearly 80% of Illinois voters say legislation to require publicly-traded corporations to disclose how much they pay in Illinois corporate tax income is a good idea. By closing three corporate tax loopholes, Illinois could raise $1.5 billion over 3 years to help solve its budget crisis.

Fresh Start event

The Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce recently held its first bi-monthly Fresh Start Monday event on April 2nd at 6p m. The aim for Fresh Start Mondays is to go around and clean up local businesses and to allow everyone to have a fun time, laughing, chatting, and getting to know local businesses and local people who support those businesses.

Our next scheduled Fresh Start Monday is April 16th at 6 pm. We have aprons, gloves, masks, brooms, and trash bags to assist in our clean up. We are meeting at Charmers Cafe and cleaning up Jarvis Plaza this time around so we really hope to see you there!

Joe Moore is also hosting the 49th Ward Spring Clean Up on the 21st, meeting at his office at noon before going out and assisting the neighborhood along with us. Which ever event(s) you attend, be sure to assist in helping make Rogers Park a cleaner place!

Participatory Budgeting - An Open Letter to Alderman Joe Moore

Alderman Joe Moore,

This is Bill Morton. We have met on hundreds of occassions over the past decade. For the readership of this open letter, I am a resident of the 49th Ward and a registered voter.

Despite our differences concerning the best interest of Rogers Park and how the 49th Ward should be lead, I have signed up for your newsletters at least ten-times in your office and at your meetings. As a concerned citizen and a pro-active community activist, I have had to rely on our neighbors to forward your e-mail blasts to me, as you have cut my email from your list as quickly as you establish the addresses connection to me or one of my organizations.

I can only speculate the reason why you would want to exclude my works, expertise and will to better our community for everybody.

My motivation for composing this open letter to you at this time is relative to your latest e-mail blast regarding Participatory Budgeting. I have participated/voted in Participatory Budgeting in the past and upon reading the following, it became timely to address my exclusion.

"Luis Klein, our 49th Ward Participatory Budgeting coordinator, has resigned to return to school full-time and I am looking for someone to assume the task of overseeing the participatory budgeting process in our community. My staff and I already have interviewed a number of very fine candidates for that position, but before we make a final decision, we want to make sure we are not overlooking other well-qualified individuals".

I am routinely overlooked by your agenda and was not included in your quest to "make sure we are not overlooking other well-qualified individuals". Exclusion due to personal or political differences is not acceptable. Exclusion due to personal or political differences is not in the best interest of our community. It is certainly not professional or healthy for your constituency either. I am interested in Participatory Budgeting as well as learning more about the process and how the votes are counted. I am in fact interested in every program and organization that affects the 49th Ward and our neighborhood of Rogers Park.

I am heavily involved in many organizations and businesses within the 49th Ward and need to know your agenda and propositions. Please send me your e-mail blasts as regularly as you send them to the many - who take the time to forward them to keep me informed. And So 'It' Goes

Michael Luckenbach posts a followup to my April 1st, 2011 A Walk Down Howard Street, noting that exactly one month afterwards, the blight remains unresolved.

This is a long story that began for the readers of Rogers Park in 1,000 Words with the maintenance of the Wisdom Bridge Theatre and the demolition of the Lerner Building on Ashland and Howard Street.

During this time everyone has been called into question including, Alderman Joe Moore, Developer Rich Aronson, The Wisdom Bridge Arts Project, former occupants Dev Corp North, the Howard Street SSA and the current property owners.

Thanks for putting this out there and thanks to Bill Morton for the pics. The sad thing about this is that this lot has sat vacant for well over a dozen years - long before the current economic crash and for a long time while development in the city was in a boom cycle. Yet this corner and the sites just east of it remained either empty or in gutted out condition. It's hard for me to fathom that with a little effort from our alderman this couldn't have been addressed, but then again he was a bit "busy" making sure that the geese were safe, keeping Wal-Mart out of other blighted areas on the far south side and catering to union interests while plying his image nationally.

As a commercial realtor I'm sure you realize that now it's too late and any market driven solutions won't happen until we're well out of our economic mess, which will be years down the road. This is the collateral damage that a community suffers when their elected representative is "MIA". In the interim, I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a community garden or even a wildflower garden and not just a fence around an area that looks like it belongs in the middle of Kandahar. Whatever the interim solution the alderman should be on the owner of the property (bank or otherwise) to clean up their act and make the area look decent until something is done to develop it.

So once again we're faced with the same recurring question - Where's Joe?
