Now Trending on Rogers Park in 1,000 Words

Rogers Park, Rogers Park blog, and even Broken Heart of Rogers Park searches land here at Rogers Park in 1,000 Words. Bonfire is also common due to the beach bonfire events that I host starting on March 20th of each year. What is interesting, are the two locations that popped this morning, 1705 W. Jonquil and the Farcroft building.

1705 W. Jonquil Terrace Chicago IL 60626 is a residential building built in 1928. This building is one of the many reported bed bug infestations. A report is as follows:

"This building is still infested!! I started getting bit the first night I moved in. For a month I didn't know what was biting me, until one night I woke up and saw one crawling on my pillow. The landlords tried to say that I had them already which I didn't according to neighbors they said the same thing to them. He came and sprayed himself but never called an exterminator. I talked to my alderman office and they confirmed that this building has had problem with bed bugs before an addition to this site. I wish I knew about this site before I moved in that building thankfully I didn't take any with me when I moved. It was a nightmare". - former resident

The Farcroft building is located at 1337 W. Fargo Avenue and is also a residential building built in 1928. Currently undergoing a renovation that began two years ago, the Farcroft is the northernmost highrise building in Chicago.

An interesting feature of the Farcroft are the various comic grotesques that decorate the lower floors, including relief carvings symbolizing human vices (vanity, gluttony, and greed), and a portly character proudly displaying himself as "The Owner".

Now Trending on Rogers Park in 1,000 Words

The address 1705 W. Jonquil is trending this morning. For Chicago thin crust pizza, I recommend J.B. Alberto's on Morse Avenue. The Alderman for the 49th Ward was searched and landed right here at Rogers Park in 1,000 Words. The Historic Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece, Emil Bach House and the former movie palace Granada Theater round out our Rogers Park Arts and Culture for the day.

Alderman Hires Kids to Peddle City Stickers

The weather is perfect and the music is lively... do you need a city sticker by the way!? Why not buy it from the kids? Does the make and model of the car you drive determine the cost of your sticker when you pick it up from the Currency Exchange? According to the sticker vendors at the Clark Street Festival it does. I was asked if I had a Honda or Toyota, and the year. I told them what kind of car I had and they said that it would cost about $82.00. Then I asked why the make and model matters; I told them that had never affected the sticker price in the past. Then the kids said to me," I don't know, maybe it doesn't make a difference." Looks like they really didn't know what they were talking about. Were they scamming people or really just kids paid to hold up a red arrow?

This guy (below) seemed to be in control of the whole operation; he told two of the kids to leave with their signs when he saw my camera. I photographed him about forty minutes later doing push-ups for a circle of onlookers while saying," Yeah I can do it- I'll do it! (he does a set of twenty reps) See that- yeah." Like Anne Sullivan he also appeared to have been drinking quite a bit!
