Bailey Dee - Small frame, big voice, ALL ROCK AND ROLL. Bailey Dee will charm you with her wide song catalog reaching into the Great American Songbook of early swing, jazz, rock, and beyond. You can hear pieces of her idols from a wide golden era of music in her voice; Julia Lee, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Little Esther, Lorrie Collins, and more. With her 4 piece band of top-shelf musicians and her guitar, it's almost as if she's demanding a dance party to break out as soon as the band hits their first note.

Dog 1 can play all the standards you know and love, but what really sets them apart are some great, unique covers and to top it off they have an ever-increasing collection of original songs – many of which are included on their upcoming EP, aptly titled: ‘Dog 1 – the EP’.

Tangleweed is a band of three forward-looking musical reactionaries from Chicago, Illinois. While the band’s instrumentation is standard bluegrass, their music is anything but. With a repertoire both broad and deep, one listener described them as sounding like “a band playing on a pirate ship off the coast of New Orleans in the 1920s”. Their four CDs have garnered critical praise and worldwide airplay, earning the band invitations to appear at major festivals and quality venues around the country.

HEADS UP

Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce Fresh Start Monday at the site of the former Adelphi Theater (7070-78 N. Clark Street).

The Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce was founded in April of 2009 with one goal: to help struggling small businesses, and in fact, all businesses, to become successful. Chamber founder Bill Morton wasn't sure how exactly to do this, but he knew that he would do what it takes to succeed.

The Chamber struggled it's first two years, but in December of 2011, the Chamber and all of it's members started taking large strides to turn the Chamber into the vision they saw.

Chamber Founder and President Bill Morton came up with the idea of a neighborhood clean-up in support of the businesses. Eventually, the program that was created was Fresh Start Monday, an event that occurs the first and third Monday of the month from April through to November, weather pending.

The next Fresh Start Monday will be on May 6th, 2013 at the site of the former Adelphi Theater (7070-78 N. Clark Street).
This is a public event from 6 pm - 7 pm. RSVP calls to (773) 850-0049 and walk-ins are OK. This is a free community event.

Bernie Walchak speaks at "Meet the Experts" event

Clark-Devon Hardware featured in historical society program ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Come to the Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society next Saturday, April 27, to meet Bernie Walchak, longtime owner of neighborhood icon Clark-Devon Hardware. Mr. Walchak will be at the RPWRHS office at 1447 W. Morse from noon - 2 p.m. He will be joined by his sister Shirley Walchak Slutzsky and his son Ken Walchak. The Walchaks will reminisce and answer questions about the store, its history, and their experiences in the neighborhood over the years. This will not be a formal presentation but rather an informal conversation. Drop in any time between noon and 2 pm and join the conversation; stay for whatever length of time you wish. The direction of talk will somewhat be determined by the interests of those who drop by.

Artifacts related to the history of Clark-Devon Hardware and the surrounding area will be on display. Light refreshments will be available. Clark-Devon Hardware was founded in 1924 and has been owned and operated by three successive generations of the Walchak family. The business is a fixture in Rogers Park, with its handsome lighted clock on the corner of the building. Bernie Walchak has lived in the Rogers Park area for all of his 88 years. He has been associated with Clark-Devon Hardware for his whole life and still works there several mornings each week. This get-together with the Walchaks marks the first program in our "Meet the Experts" series. On selected Saturdays, persons knowledgeable about an aspect of neighborhood history will be invited to spend a couple hours at our museum to chat and answer questions about their area of expertise. The series will feature some of the Society's own experts as well as people from the community.

"The journey of a 1,000 miles starts with a single step, condition your mind to strengthen your body and you will realize nothing is impossible if you believe it's possible. I train people to all always progress and grow with their health, their bodies, and their minds! Movement is key and in a time of rapid change stand still is the most dangerous thing you can do! Plus you can't get the butt you want by sitting on it! LOL". - Randy, Vbody Power Fitness

CAPS handouts from tonights meeting

__________________________________________

Today in Rogers Park - April 18th, 2013

Today in Rogers Park is a series to inform our community of relevant daily events, including the arts, entertainment, presentations and community meetings. - Bill Morton

CAPS meeting -
beat 2431, 2432, and 2433 at 7pm
Chicago Police Station, 6464 N. CLARK STREET  CHICAGO, IL. 60626

Meet the new acting commander. Report trouble and hear about police progress.

Community policing has become a popular crime-fighting strategy across the country, but there is no one definition of community policing or one specific way of carrying it out. From the time he was appointed in April 1992, Police Superintendent Matt L. Rodriguez advanced a strategy of community policing that is specific to Chicago. CAPS is a unique philosophy that borrows from the experiences of other cities, but also breaks important new ground in meeting the needs of the Chicago Police Department and the Chicago community.

What makes CAPS innovative is that it brings the police, the community, and other City agencies together to identify and solve neighborhood crime problems, rather than simply react to their symptoms after the fact. Problem solving at the neighborhood level is supported by a variety of strategies, including neighborhood-based beat officers; regular Beat Community Meetings involving police and residents; extensive training for both police and community; more efficient use of City services that impact crime; and new technology to help police and residents target crime hot spots.

With CAPS, police officers continue to enforce the law and respond rapidly to serious crimes and life-threatening emergencies. But CAPS recognizes that the police alone cannot solve the City's crime problems. It takes a combined effort of police, community, and City government working together.

Implementation of CAPS began in April 1993 with the official roll-out in five of the City's 25 police districts: Englewood (7th), Marquette (10th), Austin (15th), Morgan Park (22nd), and Rogers Park (24th). These prototype districts are diverse in terms of their demographics, economics, crime problems, and levels of community organization. As such, they provided a valuable laboratory for testing and improving the CAPS model before it was expanded Citywide.

Implementation of CAPS in the other 20 police districts began in 1994, and the strategy is now operational in all of Chicago's neighborhoods. The five original prototype districts continue to serve as a laboratory for testing new ideas and new technology.

CAPS has been recognized as one of the most ambitious community policing initiatives in the United States. It has been cited as a model by numerous national experts, including officials at the U.S. Department of Justice and academic authorities on community policing. Management guru Tom Peters featured the Chicago Police Department and CAPS in his latest business video, Service With Soul.

By opening up the dialogue between police and community, CAPS is producing a number of important success stories at the neighborhood level. Across the City, the CAPS partnership is tackling serious crime problems, as well as those neighborhood conditions that breed crime -- conditions such as abandoned buildings and vehicles, vacant lots, drug houses, and graffiti.

Together, we are working to identify and solve neighborhood crime problems, block by block, and to improve the quality of life in Chicago's neighborhoods.

WILD WILD WILD... thats what Marc & the Wild Ones are! This young, wild and authentic Rockabilly Band was formed in april 2011 by Marc Valentine (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), Rene Rottmann (Leadguitar), Andy Hümmer(Doublebass), and Holger Stretz, Stefan Dürrbeck (Drums).

A few weeks and a demo tape later, they were booked all over in Germany, Austria, Belgium, and Netherland to perform their high voltage show. In fall 2011 they singed on Rhythm Bomb Records and their first album called "The Rockin Beat of... Marc & the Wild Ones" followed.

The Amazing Heeby Jeebies -
born in the back seat of a '63 Caddy tearing down Highway 41. Amazing Ary and Earl "Wolfdaddy" knew they had created something that could be a sinners delight. Neighbors curiosity grew hearing the two bang out what became the foundation of AMAZING HEEBY JEEBIES.

Chicago Artist Ary started painting at a young age..but visual art was just not enough. When she turned 21, she became a regular fixture lurking in the shadows of the hippest live music shows mingling with international party girls, hep cats & kittens...now cutting her teeth as a musician/songwriter/performer, taking souls & rockin' bones on stage for the first time...raawwwr! This petite bad girl packs a powerful vocal punch like nobody's business. Her live performances show her provocative but sweet style, invoking artists from past and present, from blues to punk, hell raisin' rock n roll with a twist and shake of vintage kitsch.

Earl "Wolfdaddy" Carter is also one of the two original members of The Riptones, and before that he was in numerous other insane notable local bands (Deacons, Deke Rivers, Rebel Rousers, The Buzzerds, and the late and great Elvis impersonator Tom Green). Slappin' & howlin' in league with the hellhounds from the blazin' fires of nitro moonshine madness, Wolfdaddy will make you scream!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch....other talented son-of-a-guns joined in;

Randy "Doctor"" Carter: Guitar/Mandolin (bluegrass band Slightly Bent). Creating the monstrously sick incurable sound deep within your brain-that will haunt your memory in that feel good kinda way.

Bob "Be-Ware" Hyatt: Guitar/Vocals (Los Diablos, Red, Hot and Blue, Riptones). Bob's brooding and dangerously dark songwriting and sounds will start rumbles and will make you kids run to your mommas.

Tom "Boss X" Klein: Guitarist Extraordinaire (Liquid Soul, Country Doctors, Razorhouse, Ambassadors to Earth, and in the past, Spies Who Surf). The mystery behind the mayhem, this assassin of sound will cause explosions and riots with only six strings.

And last but not least the king of swing Danny "Danny Boy" McClain on drums (Los Diablos, Red Hot & Blue). Banging to the drum of his own primal beat, invoking crazy voodoo magic, makin' you twist, shake and move your feet.

Together this bizarre musical powerhouse is putting a spell on amazed crowds everywhere including the hottest spots in town, various hotrod shows, and other footstompin' happenings. Too dangerous to stop. Too gone to turn back jack!

Best described as "Dixiefried Garagabilly" drawing on various eras and genres from hillbilly, gritty blues, 60's garage punk, deep from the underworld of moody psychotic rock n roll!.

The AMAZING HEEBY JEEBIES are currently anticipating the release of their first recording debut this summer.

If you haven't seen them yet prepare to be AMAZED!
