Loyola to raise tuition

Letter from Loyola University President Michael Garanzini:

We wanted to give you as much advance notice as possible regarding tuition and other fees for the 2011-2012 academic year. To continue to foster the University’s mission, the University’s Board of Trustees has approved an increase of 3.75 percent, effective fall 2011, in undergraduate tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

In addition to tuition, room rates will increase by an average of 3.0 percent, meal plans will increase by an average of 3.4 percent, and full-time student activity fees will also increase by 3.0 percent.

These increases are needed to maintain the quality of our academic program offerings and to remain competitive with faculty and staff salaries. We strive to keep increases to a minimum while fulfilling our responsibilities to renew the University and to provide you with the exceptional education you expect—and deserve—for your investment in Loyola University Chicago. You should know that our management and Board of Trustees carefully scrutinize our financial resources and future needs to be sure that our tuition increases are necessary and prudent.

For details about tuition, fees, and room and board costs for the 2011-2012 academic year, please visit LUC.edu/bursar. My best wishes to you for a successful spring semester.

Anthropology project

Hi im in a anthropology class and was doing some fieldwork but couldnt find some of the info I needed. I would like some help with finding some info about a couple businesses in the rogers park community. Pressure (Clark and Rosemont), Armadillo's Pillow (6753 N. Sheridan), and Metropolis Coffee Company (1039 W. Granville). Whatever pertinent information you have available would be of great help. Thank you very much for being open to helping people of the community.

I will be sending him what I know about these local businesses. Anyone else have anything to share with our Anthropology friend? - Bill Morton

So long Village North Theatre

"The Village North Theatre was an asset to the community and provided cinema, culture and commerce to a part of Sheridan Road that really needed it," says Bill Morton, 31. "It was a part of our lives for a very long time, and the students, neighbors and Rogers Park community will miss it dearly."
