Some developers are angry at longtime members of our community for being watchdogs.

More on the Rich Aronson Proposal

It is always in the best interest of a neighborhood for the residents to be actively involved in any new development in the neighborhood. For the to act as watchdogs for fraud and corruption. For them to make sure that an eyesore which will ultimately drive property values down, instead of up does not get built. It is in the best interest of the people living in a neighborhood to *never* listen to a blow hard telling them to “butt out”. Someone telling me to “butt out” is only going to make me curious about what they don’t want me to see, and therefore more likely to look more closely. Oversight is not merely a good idea, it is critical to the health and well being of the area.

Why do I fight for these old buildings? Because they are worth fighting for. They are beautiful, historic, significant and part of our Rogers Park culture. Most importantly, they were built to last. Better materials, superior craftsmanship... these are works of Art.

The following is my continuing conversation with a large group of developers.

If you were at the community meeting, you would have heard Rich Aronson state that he would not build without the rezoning because it does not make financial sense. This is his default position.

The building that currently stands on the property is far more attractive than Rich Aronson’s proposal and fits well with the Broadmoor building across the street.

Rogers Park Tourism?

I am repulsed that our visitors have to spend their dollars elsewhere when visiting Rogers Park.

The benefits of tourism have been disregarded for so long that many do not take into account this potential revenue stream.

Most developers that I have spoken with are focused on trends rather than longevity.

This is not in the best interest of our community.

Dumping instead of digging?

Feb 25 RH - Well I really dont know any more than that lol. Thats what I was told by a few people including my landlord when I moved into the building. The only thing I have noticed is 2 or 3 dump trucks per day coming to dump dirt in the hole. They did it for a couple of months this past fall. Since the winter I have not seen the dump trucks, but this afternoon a flatbed cam and dropped off a bulldozer at the site. I can e-mail you a couple of pics I took today of the site if you want them. 3:47 pm

Does this seem like the devolopers are trying to cover up the contamination instead of removing it from the Lerner Hole?

Does the IEPA know about this?

Does the IEPA know about the possible land contamination of the Wisdom Bridge Theatre property directly next door?

I need some comments with your thoughts on this.

The Dark Side to Development

Some new construction increases density yet doesn't include adequate parking, even though parking is already a huge problem in Rogers Park. Destruction of architectural treasures such as the Adelphi Theater to make way for more cookie-cutter condo buildings makes no sense. Neighbor Irate Over Hole in the Ground - The former Adelphi Theater of Rogers Park.

"What, if anything is the progress of this alleged development and when, if EVER is it going to commence? Because even though it too will now lie empty, at least it won't be a determent to health and safety if there is an actual STRUCTURE there. In the meantime, why isn't it SECURE"? Read more here.
