Pillars Social Cafe

Pillars Social Cafe describes their name as "Our name stands for the three main pillars that form the foundation of our vision: Respect, Awareness and Community. They are our core values, evident in everything we do".

"From using sustainable products and artisan-made recycled or reclaimed elements to provisions that derive from sources who respect the environment and the animals, we strive to minimize our carbon footprint. Ultimately, we aim to create awareness on issues that impact our lives because let’s face it, apathy is not cool. It just doesn’t get us anywhere. Pillars Social CafĂ© is also proud to be in a culturally rich and diverse community in Rogers Park, and we look forward to giving back in any way we can".

"By creating a space that encourages social gatherings, we hope to provide a place that promotes conversations and togetherness, and one that nurtures ideas and beliefs. We don’t all believe in the same things, and that’s okay. We respect that too, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We are a restaurant with a full menu, and we also have great pastries and coffee. As a commitment to our core values, a.k.a. our pillars, our items are locally sourced whenever possible".

Dude...that place is awesome. The taco salad is extraordinary. I am looking around everywhere to find places that are small business (not a chain), friendly, and willing to hire young college students and recent graduates who are struggling to find work these days. Don't know if this matters but I grew up in Rogers Park and am excited to see this cool new place installed.

Thanks for showcasing us on your blog, Bill. We're lucky to be in a neighborhood with so many people who take so much pride in their hood.
