One more important fact to point out is that I chose not to pay Joe Moore, and the beautiful Art Deco theater that I worked for two years to restore got demolished.

Never Get Over It - Rogers Park in 1,000 Words

Alderman Joe Moore took a Bribe from Chad Zuric to Expidite the Demolition of the Adelphi Theater

Unveiling ceremonies for a memorial plaque to the late Ludwig Sussman, founder of the Adelphi Theater and Rogers Park civic leader, will be held at 8:30 pm tomorrow in the theater lobby, 7074 N. Clark St. Sussman died two years ago.

Invocation will be given by Rabbi Jacob Singer of Temple Mizpah. Speakers will be the Rev. Charles T. Hull, rector of St. Paul's Church by the Lake, and Luke F. Cunniff, 5741 Kenmore Ave., program chairman. The plaque will be unveiled by Sam Lesner, newspaper motion picture editor.

The memorial was given by Rogers Park civic organizations to which Sussman belonged. Members of the Rogers Park American Legion post also will participate.

Don't Let Joe Moore off the Hook for taking Money to Destroy this.

The Adelphi, built in 1917 for the Ascher Brothers circuit, was designed by local architect J.E.O. Pridmore. The theater stood on Clark Street at Estes Avenue in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood. In the 1930s, the Adelphi received an Art Deco remodeling. The theater was modernized during the 1940s and again in the 1950s. It began to show second-run features starting in the late 1960s, and closed briefly in the early 1980s, after several years screening Spanish movies. In the mid 1980s, the Adelphi reopened as the North Shore Theater, but was again known as the Adelphi when it began to show East Indian films and became the premiere venue for Bollywood features in the Chicagoland area. The Adelphi closed in January 2002. Sadly, the still-viable theater was demolished in January 2006. Read more here.

Alderman Joe Moore - Oblivious to Crime

Alderman Joe Moore is worried about coping until the next housing boom comes, while people are being murdered by gangs on the streets of Rogers Park.

This murder took place half a block from his headquarters.

Why won't Joe Moore do anything about our gang problem in Rogers Park?

I would consider Public Safety the priority over Joe's latest waste of money "Pigeons Evicted From Metra Underpasses".

Bike rack at Harold Washington Playlot - Ripped from it's anchors again.

The bike rack in the Harold Washington Playlot was ripped from it's site (anchors) by teens several days ago.

Last evening I watched a teen, approximately 16 years of age, 'toss it' to this location. He, the teen, was one of 8-10 youth hanging out for most of the afternoon.

The Playlot is fast being 'laid to waste' by this group and we (the community) need and request immediate and consistent police and Park District intervention to stop this destruction!

Battered man found under van

Battered man found under van

A man was found battered under a van Saturday morning. A condominium worker saw a man lying with his head and chest under at van at 6030 N. Damen Ave. and called emergency crews about 6:50 a.m., police said.

Police said the ground around the van was “disturbed” and it appeared the man crawled under the van during a struggle. The injuries do not appear to be from the van. He was taken unconscious to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition with trauma to the head, police said.

The man was not carrying an ID and police are still trying to identify him Saturday afternoon. He is described as a 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 black man with braids and a goatee. He is believed to be 25- to 35 years old, police said.

USPS Closing Clark Street Postal Station

USPS Closing Clark Street Postal Station - Lake Effect News
By LORRAINE SWANSON

The Chicago District of the U.S. Postal Service will close its station at 7056 N. Clark St. in Rogers Park at the end of the business day on Friday, June 26.

Postal customers have until June 26 to retrieve mail from their boxes and switching to another location. Mark Reynolds, spokesman for the Chicago District, said that officials at the main office downtown have opted to not renew the lease at the Clark Street station in Rogers Park, which expires at the end of this month, because of declining customers.

“Customer and retail traffic at the station have gone down by double digits over the past year,” Reynolds said.

CAPS Beat 2411 Car Thefts Up

CAPS Beat 2411 Car Thefts Up - Lake Effect News

Overall, it was a quiet month in CAPS Beat 2411, bounded by Howard Street on the north, Pratt Blvd. on the south, Kedzie Avenue on the west, and Ridge Avenue on the east. Burglaries and car thefts, however, are up, according to Sgt. John Delgado, of the 24th District CAPS office.

The Numbers

24th District – 13,500 calls for service (911)
Beat 2411 – 1,624 calls for service (911)
24th District arrests – 404
Beat 2411 arrests – 34

New issues

· A resident who lives across the street from Rogers Elementary School on Washtenaw said that the same two groups of people shoot off fireworks on the school playground every July 4. “I don’t mind people shooting off fireworks, but come 11 p.m. and midnight, I do mind,” he said.

The man asked if the 24th District could send a car by the school playground every hour or so in the evening to chase away residents who are blowing off illegal fireworks. Sgt. Delgado said that 911 dispatchers field thousands of calls about illegal fireworks within a short time period during the July 4 holiday, it was impossible to assign all the calls. “Even with ten times the number of officers working (July 4), we’re unable to get there even once.

Harold Washington Memorial Playlot Park Update

Harold Washington Memorial Playlot Park Update

The bike rack has again been 'uprooted' from it's anchors (see attached picture). This was done in a destructive, willful manner and exemplifies the on going result of the older crowd's purpose and effect in and on the Playlot.

We (the community) need serious intervention from Park District personnel (Security & Staff) to remove and keep this crowd out of the Playlot. I'm also forwarding pictures taken this AM to show the litter which accumulated yesterday, despite the cleanup by PD maintenance in the morning.

Despite the PD cleanup crews effort on a regular basis and the two trash containers in the Playlot, this is a daily situation, resulting in this condition. Again, this is mainly the result of the older crowd and their 'activities'.

Residents logged complaints about noise disturbances and suspected narcotics sales at several buildings in the North of Howard Area in Rogers Park. Sgt. John Delgado, the community relations officer for the 24th District, said that residents need to sign noise complaints, the police can’t do it themselves because “it’s not our peace that’s being disturbed.”
