Remembering North Shore School - Initial Reaction

Mr. Morton,

Henry, my son, attended North Shore for 2 years, '95 & '96. I moved to the western suburbs because of the schools and better socialization opportunities for Henry. And mostly because Rogers Park never got better... it was dicey walking west of Sheridan Rd. on Chase. We can all thank David Orr for his Section 8 push and his lackey Moore for what's happened.

I owned 3C at 1208 W. Chase for 10 years...that beautiful old building was visible from my south windows.

Tonight Henry called me from Arizona State ... he found some peers from North Shore on Facebook and emailed me a photo of the building...then I started looking around and found more of your stuff. It is devastating.

And I am in tears. And Henry was saddened too.

Another beautiful building gone and for what....an ugly parking lot for an equally ugly building.

North Shore School Demolished with Full School Inside

Thousands of books in the rubble, wastefully demolished.

The property owner and Alderman Joe Moore had no foresight of who could have read them, or where they could be donated.

I did manage to save 10,000 of the books, over a period of a week, before the complete demolition of the "little red schoolhouse".

More about where I will donate these saved books in the near future.

OH, CHRISTMAS TREE!

Time seems to be passing more quickly this year...have you bought your Christmas tree yet?

Tree lots have cropped up everywhere, but our favorite is George's Christmas Trees at 7313-15 N. Sheridan Road in Rogers Park.

Every year, George comes down to Chicago from his home in Shiocton, Wisconsin--that's west of Green Bay--to sell pumpkins and Christmas trees.



He's open all day, every day, so stop in. Prices are very reasonable, the trees are fresh, and oooh, it smells soooo good!

1221 W. Sherwin Ave - Interior Demolition Starts in 20 minutes

The residents are out, and whatever was left over is to be removed and destroyed in 20 minutes.

I spoke with a manager of the gut-rehab project, and he stated that it should be complete betweeen 5 or 6 months.

Former residents stated that they expect to return in April '09 to a renovated building, with higher rent.

Another resident stated that the building located at 1221 W. Sherwin Avenue "was paid-off free and clear" before the interior demolition, "but they mortgaged the building, $6 million, for the renovation".

Hello! I ADORE your blog. Your photographs are fantastic. I am a part of an all women's theatre company called 20% Theatre Company Chicago. As usual, we have a number of exciting things going on here at the store. Our lesson program continues to grow and prosper, and we couldn’t be more proud of our wonderful students. We like to keep our teachers busy, and our new extra-large lesson room is ready for action, so please recommend us to your friends and family. On that topic, our annual recital is quickly approaching. This year we will be celebrating our students’ progress at the Morseland, on December 6. The festivities begin at 5 o’clock and run until around 8. Come join us for a great time!

The Music Hour, our new toddler program, is well underway, and has so far been super fun. It is designed for newborns to toddlers (up to four years old,) and brings music and books together in a cozy, relaxed environment.
