A number of health effects may occur due to bed bugs including skin rashes, psychological effects and allergic symptoms. Diagnosis involves both finding bed bugs and the occurrence of compatible symptoms. Treatment is otherwise symptomatic.
In the developed world, bed bugs were largely eradicated as pests in the early 1940s, but have increased in prevalence since about 1995. Because infestation of human habitats has been on the increase, bed bug bites and related conditions have been on the rise as well. The exact causes of this resurgence remain unclear; it is variously ascribed to greater foreign travel, more frequent exchange of second-hand furnishings among homes, a greater focus on control of other pests resulting in neglect of bed bug countermeasures, and increasing resistance to pesticides. Bed bugs have been known as human parasites for thousands of years.
The name "bed bug" is derived from the insect's preferred habitat of houses and especially beds or other areas where people sleep. Bed bugs, though not strictly nocturnal, are mainly active at night and are capable of feeding unnoticed on their hosts. They have however been known by a variety of names including wall louse, mahogany flat, crimson rambler, heavy dragoon, chinche and redcoat
The Bed Bug Registry, a public database of bedbug sightings in the U.S. and Canada, states that Chicago has nearly 500 bed bug reports.

Very nice. I checked out the mention. Thank you, curbed chicago!
ReplyDeleteI also read the Sun-Times article at the link you provided above, and found the following quote interesting:
“It could work well in my neck of the woods, too, with the high unemployment we have near Howard Street,” Moore said.
There are many in the North of Howard area of Rogers Park who are unemployed. This is a situation, that Joe is admitting in his statement.
I believe that the higher crime rate on Howard Street over the past 20 years is directly linked to the poverty in this area.
I would like to discuss some possible solutions to this issue in our community.
Your doing better with your blog
ReplyDeleteobviously, Really though I would do something different with the photos, maybe make it like a chart of smaller photos and that each could be clicked on, with a couple really big photos, just saying that i think most people will think its a drag to have to scroll so much from one entry to another,
If you look at uptown update you can see how many blog entries there are to a page, by no means are you under any obligation to do it that way, but only 3 to 4 super long blog entries to a computer page is going to put alot of people off.
BUT, what I do like about all your photos is, its showing off Rogers Park, definitly in the top ten neighborhoods in the city, if not the in the top five.
Really though its in a class by itself. The EL, The Lake, The Beach, and Metra in walking distance, with Loyola and the emerging Morse Retail strip, what more can you ask for?
