SPEAKING OF...
The Comcast bus shelter ad in the above "Signs" blog was trashed last night or early this morning by person or persons unknown. Here are the results of this CRIME.
Fortunately a call was made to JCDecaux, the company which owns the shelters, and a clean-up/repairman was sent to Sheridan Road and Estes Avenue early this afternoon.
But we'll be watching this space. Crime in Rogers Park is on the rise. Stay tuned.

SAFETY FIRST!
Kudos to Power Construction for their super-creative safety campaign ads. This one was on the fence surrounding construction of the new greenspace just west of the Madonna Chapel at Loyola University in Rogers Park.
I was told by a member of the construction crew that there are several variations Power has placed at their construction sites throughout Chicago.

Rogers Park Hit
Southwest corner Sherwin and Sheridan Road (shortly after 7pm)A 15 year old boy traveling with three friends was hit by a passing car while crossing at the intersection of Sherwin and Sheridan Road. Witnesses called police, who arrived very swiftly accompanied by an ambulance. The boy refused hospital treatment, became angry, and was consequently handcuffed by the police. More officers arrived and a decision was made to transport the young man to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.

Progress & Poverty - 1507 W. Morse Avenue
Hi Bill Morton
I came across your blog(s) while searching for something else (of course), and I see that you want to know about interesting things happening in Rogers Park. I hope you will include the Henry George School's Progress & Poverty course being offered at 1507 W. Morse beginning Wednesday, October 8, at 7 PM. The objective of this course is to help people better understand the causes of persistent poverty and many other economic difficulties. If you are poor, it is not going to get you out of poverty, but if you are concerned about the problem of poverty it will help you understand the forces behind America's increasing concentration of wealth among the few, and why so many anti-poverty efforts fail. The course will point toward solutions which do work, and helps in understanding many other neighborhood and community issues.
The first class session is free, and will provide an overview of our approach. People who choose to sign up for the course will attend four subsequent sessions, each Wednesday thru November 5, and are requested to pay a $25 fee which includes all lesson materials.
