ST. SCARLET by Julia Jordan lets us in on two days in the lives (and in some cases the deaths) of the members of an Irish-American family in backcountry Minnesota, where three siblings are left to deal with each other for a change, now that their mother has passed away. Ruby, Rose, and Seamus not only have to contend with each other over their mother's house, her possessions, and her funeral arrangements, but must also battle for their own identities and for the truth. Add Vinnie to the mix, a mysterious stranger bearing years worth of love letters from "Scarlet", who believes he's here to propose to Rose—who may or may not even know who he is—and you have a snowbound quartet with no phone, no instructions, and no answers.
