Loyola University to resume classes after blizzard

A message from Loyola University:

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

Loyola University Chicago will resume its regular class schedule on Thursday, February 3. The University encourages everyone to use public transportation, where possible, and asks that you allow extra time for commuting. The Shuttle Service and 8-RIDE will resume their normal schedules on Thursday as well.

Please note that 8-RIDE will NOT be in service tonight, Wednesday, February 2. If students need transportation in the event of an emergency, please contact Campus Safety at 773.508.6039.

For additional updates, please visit LUC.edu.

Thank you for your patience and we hope that you and your families remained safe and warm through the blizzard.

Sincerely,

John Pelissero, PhD, Provost
Tom Kelly, Vice President of Human Resources

Loyola cancels classes as blizzard approaches

A message from Loyola University:

Due to severe and life-threatening weather conditions, classes have been canceled at the Lake Shore and Water Tower campuses starting at 4:15 p.m. today, Tuesday, February 1, through Wednesday, February 2, 2011. Please continue to visit LUC.edu for additional updates.

The Simpson and Lakeshore dining halls and the Terry Food Court (in the Terry Student Center) will remain open. Halas Sports Center, Klarchek Information Commons, and Cudahy Library are also scheduled to remain open with limited hours of operation. The campus Shuttle Service will stop Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and resume Thursday at 7 a.m. There will be no 8-RIDE service on Tuesday evening and service is scheduled to resume on Wednesday evening. Please contact Campus Safety at 773.508.6039 if you need emergency transportation.

Because travel will be severely curtailed by the anticipated heavy snowfall and blizzard conditions, only essential personnel are asked to come to campus on Tuesday evening and Wednesday. All other faculty, staff, and students should stay home or in their residence halls until after the severe weather subsides. Those who have the ability to work from an alternative location and have approval from their supervisor, may do so. Those not requested to report to work should remain home. Staff who are not working can use their accrued paid time off (floating holiday, personal time, or vacation) to generate pay for this day.

Classes and normal work schedules are anticipated to resume on Thursday, February 3. Please be sure to check for updates at LUC.edu or call the University’s weather line at 773.508.8900.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

John Pelissero, Provost
Tom Kelly, Vice President of Human Resources
