Today in Rogers Park - February 28th, 2013

Today in Rogers Park is a series to inform our community of relevant daily events, including the arts, entertainment, presentations and community meetings. - Bill Morton

Dear Neighbors,

BE CAREFUL IN THE SNOW, especially shoveling it!

************************************
CAPS meeting is Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7 pm at the CMSA, 7212 N. Clark.
************************************
This will be a joint meetings with residents of beat 2422, 2423, and 2424.

Attendance at meetings helps improve the quality of life in our neighborhood:
* encouraging active participation,
* developing strategies to address area and block issues,
* meeting other residents and
* getting to know beat officers.

Crime incidents in January 2013 were DOWN by 1%, compared to 2012. While this is good news, crime stats spiked last January (2012). In short, we're still up over January 2011. The increase over 2011 is driven in large part by Vandalism. This could be a reporting anomaly. If, as police have urged, more people are calling 911 and filing police reports about graffiti and other vandalism, then the data would suggest a spike, while in fact it may just be a reflection of people being more proactive. And being proactive is what it's all about, especially alerting the police (911) when you suspect a crime may happen .. early warning makes all the difference!

Detailed crime stats will be posted at http://www.network2424.com later this week.
BOTTOM LINE ... we need to remain proactive to continue to the quality of life in our area!

CALL 911 when you see a problem, including suspicious activity .. better to prevent a situation from escalation, than have to deal with it when it does. If we expect to continue see downward trends in crime incidents we MUST remain active on our blocks as things improve ... continuing to Call 911 aggressively!

Please attend CAPS meeting ... get to know your neighbors and beat officers.

WHEN: Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7 pm (to 8 pm, one hour)
WHERE: Chicago Math & Science Academy, 7212 N. Clark (in the cafeteria)

Please forward this e-mail to your neighbors and call those that don't have internet access.

Thanks,
