The Morgan at Loyola Station is a transit-oriented development located next to the CTA train station and multiple bus lines that further promotes alternative modes of transportation through a bicycle storage room, changing facility, and I-Go Car Sharing. The development employs green roof technology in combination with a second floor amenity garden to reduce storm water impact to sewer systems and reduce the building’s radiant heat load. In addition, native and drought-resistant plants used in the landscaping reduce water and energy usage. Healthy air quality is created through the use of low VOC paint, carpeting and sealants. A variety of locally produced, recycled and sustainable materials are used in the construction.
“We are proud to be recognized by the USGBC for our company’s efforts in building sustainable communities which reduce the negative impact on our environment,” commented Daniel McCaffery, President and Founder, McCaffery Interests, Inc. McCaffery Interests has a 20-year history of environmental conscientiousness, focusing on developing and redeveloping urban infill sites in transit-oriented, pedestrian-friendly urban locations. This is the company’s second LEED certification with others pending.

I am supportive of many options to sustain affordable housing in the 49th Ward. However, absent a comprehensive study on the feasibility of the Rental Improvement Fund-TIF proposal it would not be in the best interest of our community. If elected, I would support and fund the RIF study to determine its feasibility then place such a proposal to the voters of our community as a ballot referendum. Affordable housing is critical for our community and we must get it right!!
Given the lack of leadership by the current State majority party and the incumbent Alderman, we have poisoned the environment by increased taxes. We must review the RIF and other alternatives to sustain affordable housing and not rely on one proposal.
