Bettering our community with our Votes

I Voted Bill Morton, registered voter in the 49th Ward

It is important to be a registered voter and vote in every election.

Voting is a way to speak your mind and let your voice be heard!

Your vote is your voice.

When we vote, we are actually telling elected officials and lawmakers how we feel about education, public safety, social security, health care, and other important issues.

•One voice, one vote really does count!

Remember: there is power in numbers, and when we vote and get our family members to vote, we can truly make a difference. If you don’t vote for what you believe in, others will – and you may not like the outcome.

Because our children can’t vote, we have to do it for them.

Our children are depending on us to represent their voices too! When we vote, we are looking out for our kids, and their futures.

Voting changes communities!

That’s how we make our concerns about schools, safety, housing, and other issues heard.

Because your activism, including in reforming the system, will be more powerful if you have voted.

Because your monitoring of the fairness of the election must begin with voting in it.

Alderman Joe Moore Political / Campaign Contribution Information

Since my recent article Better Government Association report on Tawani Enterprises Incorporated on Rogers Park in 1,000 Words, I got a lot of feedback including requests for a complete list of Alderman Joe Moore's Political / Campaign Contributions.

source: Better Government Association report on Tawani Enterprises Incorporated: http://www.rp1000.blogspot.com/2013/10/better-government-association-report-on.html

"Sheet 1" is all contributions to date going back to 1999.
"Sheet 2" is all Pritzker related contributions to Alderman Joe Moore.

Sheet 2 is unique because it extracts those Pritzker related companies which are not obvious on the Illinois Board of Elections site. I know these corporations/llcs and organizations are associated with Jennifer Pritzker/Tawani Enterprises/Rogers Park Solutions llc/Rogers Park Vintage Management etc due to my gathering of data through the Secretary of State's office for earlier article here: http://www.rp1000.blogspot.com/2013/10/better-government-association-report-on.html

All of this data is available for download for any candidate on the Illinois Board of Elections site, so I should note that this is where the following information is from.

source:

A companion to this report is the Campaign Financing Ordinance that was in effect through October 31, 2012. You can download/review this .pdf here: http://www.cityofchicago.org/content/dam/city/depts/ethics/general/Ordinances/CFO2010.pdf

An additional resource includes an overview of the City's prohibitions and limitations regarding political contributions. This is available on the City of Chicago site here: http://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/ethics/supp_info/camp_contributors.html

For information on how the Board of Ethics interprets the City's prohibitions and limitations regarding political contributions: http://www.cityofchicago.org/content/dam/city/depts/ethics/general/AO_CampFinanacing/13044.A.pdf

Howard Street, 1977

"Another abrupt change comes north of Howard Street; the row of run-down taverns on Paulina was established to serve Evanston's drinking population when Evanston was dry, and the surrounding blocks of high-density apartment buildings became one of the city's worst slums".

Rogers Park, 1977

"Most of the newcomers have settled between Ashland and the lake, a medium-density area that is full of old but comfortable three-story apartment buildings, well maintained brick homes, and "four-plus-ones" (unattractive, cheaply constructed apartment buildings, made possible by a peculiarity of Chicago's housing code until they were finally outlawed a few years ago)".

Six week old kitten for adoption

I wanted to reach out to you in hopes of you posting a 6 week old kitten available for adoption on your blog.

I recently rescued 5 kittens from a bad environment and was able to find homes for four of the kittens. I have one female kitten remaining. The kitten is playful, eating solid food and litter trained. I have posted two photos along with this email.

I really just want this kitten placed into a good home and unfortunately, I have two cats and will not be able to keep this sweet little darlin’. Again, any assistance or leads from you would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

 Sincerely, Jen Caruso

The best way to reach me is through my email on my blackberry – jennifercaruso@sprint.blackberry.net or a phone call to my cell – 847.754.6414.

CAPS meeting is tonight, Thursday, July 26, at 7 pm, at Touhy Park (not at Pottawattomie Park, not CMSA) -- it is air conditioned.

This will be a joint meetings with residents of beat 2422, 2423, and 2424.

Attendance at meetings helps improve the quality of life in our neighborhood:

* encouraging active participation,
* developing strategies to address area and block issues,
* meeting other residents and
* getting to know beat officers.

Crime incidents in 2012 remain up by 1% over 2011, however, crime incidents dropped 19% in May and 13% in June (year over year). Total crime stats are still below 2008 and 2009 levels. Details are available at http://www.network2424.com .

BOTTOM LINE
... we need to be remain proactive!

We need to remain diligent in watching our blocks ... especially given the current economic climate. Call 911 WHENEVER you see a problem, including suspicious activity. Over the last 4 years, the concept of neighbors-working-with-neighbors has driven down crime. If we expect to continue see downward trend we MUST remain active on our blocks as things improve ... and continue to Call 911 aggressively!

Please attend CAPS meeting ... get to know your neighbors.

WHEN: Thursday, July 26, at 7 pm (to 8 pm, one hour)

WHERE: Touhy Park Fieldhouse, 7348 N. Paulina, (in park, directly across the street from CMSA)

Please forward this message to your neighbors and call those that don't have internet access.

West Rogers Park = West Ridge

City-sized media and trend-chasing real-estate representatives continue to try to convince that West Ridge is in fact, a section of Rogers Park.

The fact is, Rogers Park's South West borders are exactly Devon and Ridge.

To state it more clearly:

Any location South of Devon Avenue is not in Rogers Park.

Any location West of Ridge Avenue is not Rogers Park.

That being said, here is latest from the Chicago Tribune:

Chicago Tribune: Man dies after being found beaten in West Rogers Park alleyJuly 13, 2012|By Carlos Sadovi | Tribune reporter
"A 62-year-old man who was found in an alley in the West Rogers Park neighborhood was beaten to death, officials said".

While viewing the article I also noticed that the attached Google map even states the area as West Ridge.

I know some people feel strongly about this issue. I will reply to all comments.

Woman falls on Howard Station tracks

An eye-witness to the scene describes the woman falling from the platform to the electrical track, shaking and vibrating before CTA staff were able to cut power to the line. The woman, then still shaking, attempted to rise.
