The six story, beautiful and elegant Broadmoor Hotel was built in 1922-23 by two ambitious architects. During the year 1924 and up until 1927, WBBM Radio played in their ballroom jazz and other popular music; they even played Amos and Andy and Fibber McGee and Molly. Still one of the most beautiful buildings in Rogers Park, it is well worth whatever it takes to restore it to it's former glory.

Where exactly is this? There's great photos, but no address. . .
ReplyDeleteBill,
ReplyDeleteAs I understand the call letters from the WBBM radio/TV (Chicago CBS) actually resulted from the 'motto' of a very early radio show broadcasting live big band dance music from the Broadmoor ballroom, "We Broadcast Broadmoor Music". In those days the Broadmoor was a very 'ritzy', high-end residential Hotel and Howard Street was a thriving upscale retail/entertainment district.
