Pictured above is the shrine of Omar Estrada, who was shot to death sitting on this bench in Touhy Park.
I had the opportunity to meet his family at the shrine this afternoon.
Who is responsible for his murder in Rogers Park?
I'll open this one for the views of our community.

Rogers Park walkthrough 9/27/07 Part VIII
Teen shot, critically hurt in Rogers Park - Chicago Breaking News
Yeah not good.
ReplyDeleteWrong place wrong time.
I guess the bangers shoot people who arent them and same race in their age range in their "territory".
Concerning the graffiti, it has been up in certain spots and I call it in when its near me or especially ridiculous,
ReplyDeleteThey are now fixing up a building at 1642 w fargo with scaffolding up but it was tagged, called that in, that stretch of fargo has been tagged up a bit lately, but I dont let it phase me.
I just keep plugging away.....
Pick up litter, Call in graffiti,
Call in drugdealing, Call in "loitering/gangsigns", Discuss with neighbors and businesses anything new......
Just part of keeping the neigborhood in good shape.
Personally I would cut up these various news and subjects into different posts and make the posts shorter, like uptown update......
ReplyDeleteI returned at dusk with a friend to follow up on the shrine and was questioned by the Chicago Police Department.
ReplyDeleteThank you for actually investigating the activity at the murder site. This was much more than I've seen in the past at other violent and critical crimes in the 49th Ward.
Three decades ago Touhy Park was a great place to play tennis on a sunny day. People were friendly to meet and greet. Lots of Rogers Park people bicycled thru that park and soaked up the sun. Its a shame to hear of such a crime in this neighborhood.

ReplyDeleteOn second thought... since I provided the Chicago Police Department with the RP1000 URL as part of their investigation on the murder of Omar Estrada, I have their ear.
Chicago Police Department, Where you on the night that Omar Estrada was murdered in Touhy Park?
I also didn't hear any response from Alderman Joe Moore or the CAPS program.
Touhy Park Advisory Council, what are you doing to decrease gang activity and murders within your jurisdiction?
Public Safety should be the priority.
