More activity at the Lerner Hole

Bill you must have talked things up lol. This site had been silent for a few months, and yesterday after reading your blog the trucks came back. This morning I have seen more activity at this site than ever before. Pickup trucks, dump trucks, and tractors.Feb 26

We need to know if they are digging or dumping dirt on the contaminated land. - Bill

Dumping instead of digging?

Feb 25 RH - Well I really dont know any more than that lol. Thats what I was told by a few people including my landlord when I moved into the building. The only thing I have noticed is 2 or 3 dump trucks per day coming to dump dirt in the hole. They did it for a couple of months this past fall. Since the winter I have not seen the dump trucks, but this afternoon a flatbed cam and dropped off a bulldozer at the site. I can e-mail you a couple of pics I took today of the site if you want them. 3:47 pm

Does this seem like the devolopers are trying to cover up the contamination instead of removing it from the Lerner Hole?

Does the IEPA know about this?

Does the IEPA know about the possible land contamination of the Wisdom Bridge Theatre property directly next door?

I need some comments with your thoughts on this.

Rogers Park / West Ridge Historical Society Press Release

Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY HOSTS ANNUAL HOUSE WALK

ON MAY 2nd in INDIAN BOUNDARY PARK AREA

Chicago – March 15, 2010 - The Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society will host its Annual House Walk on Sunday, May 2, 2010 from 12 Noon to 5:00 p.m.

This year’s tour will highlight homes surrounding Indian Boundary Park, including the notable Park Castles and Park Gables apartment buildings.

Registration for the house walk is available at www.rpwrhs.org or by calling (773) 764-4078. Admission is $25 for society members and $30 for non-members.

A discounted rate of $20 for members and $25 for non-members will be offered through April 25. Day-of registration will be available at the Indian Boundary Park Cultural Center, 2500 West Lunt Ave. beginning at 12 Noon. The last tour will start at 3:30 p.m.

Several units of the Park Castles and Park Gables will be open for the tour as well as the buildings’ spectacular Art Deco swimming pools. The structures grace the eastern and northern boundary of the park – a magnificent group of Gothic and Tudor Revival style structures built in the late 1920s by developers Gubbins, O’Donnell & Blietz.

Indian Boundary Park was opened in 1922 as the centerpiece of the Ridge Avenue Park District. The 13-acre park was designed as a pastoral landscape with picturesque gardens, a lagoon with a small island, rolling lawns, and meandering paths. Its field house, now the Indian Boundary Park Cultural Center, was designed by prominent architect Clarence Hatzfeld, and is noted for its unusual combination of Tudor Revival design and Native American images and sculptures.

Several other homes near the park owned by notable 1920s personalities will be included in the tour. The Indian Boundary area is a hidden gem on the north side, with an abundance of historically and architecturally significant buildings and landscapes.

A new exhibit in the park’s cultural center, A Park is Your Front Yard: Indian Boundary Park and the Gubbins, McDonnell & Blietz Co-ops, 1915-1929 will be open to tour participants on May 2.

The Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society was formed in 1975 to preserve the history of Rogers Park and West Ridge as a vital part of the City of Chicago, and to provide interactive education about these communities to the public.

A quick note: Rich Aronson

At last nights meeting, developer Rich Aronson dropped two very suspicious names. He stated "I'm good friends with Jay Johnson and Tariq Siddiqui".

More coverage on these three developers coming very soon.

...and... How does Alderman Joe Moore fit in with this bunch?

It's time to revisit

Joe Moore and Rich Aronson, tearing up our neighborhood again!

Whose great idea is it to put a mixed-use building (another storefront), on empty-storefront Howard Street? Nearly every storefront in Rogers Park along Howard Street is completely empty.

You know, the condo skyscraper on Howard Street (nearly a block away), went into foreclosure shortly after it opened. What makes Rich Aronson's condos any better?

This post that I read recently, sums it up nicely: http://fortysomething-politics.blogspot.com/2008/05/evanstons-howard-street-condos-view.html

This is the Adelphi Theater, the North Shore School and Lerner building all over again. Another dangerous eyesore hole in the ground for years and years to come.

Joe Moore has a long history of supporting fraudulent and foreclosure developers.

Just look at Swanette Triem's rush demo of the North Shore School to avoid the IEPA busting her for exposing our community to Asbestos in the air we breathe.

Remember Chad "Cedomer" Zuric, and the now defunct Golden Hands Construction corporation that demolished the Adelphi Theater and left our neighborhood with that dangerous abandoned Hole of a Mess.

Chicago, IL. 60626

For more information about Joe's meeting, and where/when you should oppose this deal, please visit:

http://nhna.blogspot.com/2010/02/community-meeting-to-consider.html

Another very important note is that, Joe Moore did not have an inspector check the land that the Wisdom Bridge Theatre stands upon.

The land directly beside it, the Lerner Hole, once was a laundry facility that contaminated the land. Because this land is contaminated, no one can build anything on it.

Ever wonder why the Lerner hole, located on Howard Street and Ashland Avenue (across from Willye B. White Park and directly next to the Wisdom Bridge Theatre), still has large equipment digging holes?

It is because no one knows how deep the contamination goes from the former laundry facility. Until the contamination is cleared, no buildings can legally be built on the property.

++Those of you at Al Goldberg properties and Jay Johnson properties have seen this++

Ask Joe and Rich Aronson about the land contamination and catch them in a jitter.

If the Wisdom Bridge Theatre is demolished, it is guaranteed to remain a dangerous hole in the ground for at least a decade. Just like the former Lerner Building Property.

Joe Moore is not looking out for the best interest of our community on this one. He has a financial stake in this deal.

Remember this plan for the Adelphi Theater property that Alderman Joe Moore presented years ago "complete with a clock tower"?

Well, Here it is now:

Another 1,000 Views

Just want to thank everyone again, for reading Rogers Park in 1,000 Words.

I would guess that this has something to do with recent RP1000 posts:

Another Contaminated Demolition site

These photos are of the IEPA (Illinois Evironmental Protection Agency), inspecting the North Shore School demolition site for contaminants that could poison residents of Rogers Park.

IEPA inspecting the demolition of the North Shore School in Rogers Park IEPA inspecting the demolition of the North Shore School in Rogers Park IEPA inspecting the demolition of the North Shore School in Rogers Park

The demolition was ordered to stop, but Swanette Triem, had it continued over the evenings and weekends when the IEPA would not be watching. this poisoned the air of thousands of nearby residents with asbestos and other hazardous substances. Alderman Joe Moore approved the rezoning, then demolition after accepting campaign contributions. You can read more about this here: http://rp1000.blogspot.com/2010/02/its-time-to-revisit.html.

Thank you for producing this video of the last days of the Adelphi Theater in Rogers Park. This video advocates the preservation of our history, not only in Rogers Park or Chicago, but everywhere. I know many who have watched this video agree that the demolition of the Adelphi Theater was a tragedy that should never be swept under the rug or forgotten. We should learn from this and hold those who disregard the importance of our history and culture responsible. Especially on election day.
