Dear Neighbors, BE CAREFUL IN THE SNOW, especially shoveling it! ****************************** CAPS meeting is Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7 pm at the CMSA, 7212 N. Clark. ****************************** This will be a joint meetings with residents of beat 2422, 2423, and 2424. Attendance at meetings helps improve the quality of life in our neighborhood: * encouraging active participation, * developing strategies to address area and block issues, * meeting other residents and * getting to know beat officers. Crime incidents in January 2013 were DOWN by 1%, compared to 2012. While this is good news, crime stats spiked last January (2012). In short, we're still up over January 2011. The increase over 2011 is driven in large part by Vandalism. This could be a reporting anomaly. If, as police have urged, more people are calling 911 and filing police reports about graffiti and other vandalism, then the data would suggest a spike, while in fact it may just be a reflection of people being more proactive. And being proactive is what it's all about, especially alerting the police (911) when you suspect a crime may happen .. early warning makes all the difference! Detailed crime stats will be posted at http://www.network2424.com later this week. BOTTOM LINE ... we need to remain proactive to continue to the quality of life in our area! CALL 911 when you see a problem, including suspicious activity .. better to prevent a situation from escalation, than have to deal with it when it does. If we expect to continue see downward trends in crime incidents we MUST remain active on our blocks as things improve ... continuing to Call 911 aggressively! Please attend CAPS meeting ... get to know your neighbors and beat officers. WHEN: Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7 pm (to 8 pm, one hour) WHERE: Chicago Math & Science Academy, 7212 N. Clark (in the cafeteria) Please forward this e-mail to your neighbors and call those that don't have internet access. Grammy Award winner James "Superharp" Cotton makes much anticipated Mayne Stage debut this Spring. Inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2006, the Smithsonian Institute in 1991, and winner of countless W.C. Handy Blues Awards, he has shared the stage with B.B. King, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Winter, the Allman Brothers, Santana, Bonnie Raitt, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Sam and Dave, The Grateful Dead among many others.
In 1954 when Muddy Waters needed a harmonica player, he found Cotton playing a club in Arkansas and took him to Chicago. Cotton remained with Waters for 12 years not only playing shows but also recording with him on Chess Records. One of the highlights of that period came when Cotton arranged the ever-popular anthem for the blues, "Got My Mojo Workin', " which was played for the first time by the Muddy Waters Band at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1961.
In 1966 Cotton formed his James Cotton Blues Band which continues to showcase his immense talent and keeps him one of the most sought-after, hard-driving, seminal blues musicians touring the world today.

Rogers Parkers make the Roots Music Chart
Rogers Park recording artists The Sons of the Never Wrong make the Roots Radio Chart for the State of Illinois.
Sons of the Never Wrong are a folk trio from Chicago made up of Bruce Roper, Deborah Lader, and Sue Demel. The band has been creating original "turbo-charged folk music" for 19 years to a cult-like national following. With their different take on three part harmony on top of witty, whimsical songs, Sons’ style springs from a tradition you’d swear you've heard, but this just ain't your grandpop's folk music.
The Son's 6 CD releases have brought them stunning national and international reviews as well as extensive radio-play. It is their live performances though that win the audience's hearts. The group can barely stand still on stage and insty-choreography results in a non-stop show of stories, dancing, and odd-ball humor. Yet it is when the three step up to the mic and belt out one of their many gorgeously- arranged songs, that you know you are in for something extra special.
