Rogers Park parking

This isn't a controversial topic. It is a fact that parking in Rogers Park is a major issue and can be very frustrating to it's residents and visitors alike.

I have invited my friends and family to my home in the past and due to their bad experiences with parking, they are hesitant to visit Rogers Park.

This effects the residents and businesses of Rogers Park as well as the 49th Ward voters.

I pose the questions regarding our parking problem because I think that there may be a better solution that has not yet been considered.

I am for bettering our community in any way that I can. Addressing the issue of parking is not only relevant, but long, long overdue.

I have been experimenting with flickr since 2008. Now, I have released the new Rogers Park profile with some familiar and some previously unreleased photos.

They claim "Flickr is the WD-40 that makes it easy to get photos or video from one person to another in whatever way they want". I hope to organize hundreds of thousands of unreleased Rogers Park photos so that I can display the best of on Rogers Park in 1,000 Words.

Fire and Lightning - Rogers Park

There is lightning on the horizon in Rogers Park, and I'm hosting the Friends of Bill Morton Spring Fire tonight.

I would like to up the ante and offer a one hundred dollar prize to the first of my guests to take a photo that includes both my bonfire and a strike of lightning hitting Lake Michigan.

RSVP required.

First Day of Spring events

Ever since Spring 1996, I have planned special events on the first day of Spring, March 20th. Here are two of my events in Rogers Park this evening.

Cafe Society Spring Coffee Talk

Charmers Cafe. 7pm
RSVP required

Cafe Society is not a new idea. In Beethoven's time in Vienna, great minds gathered over coffee, a beverage that only recently had eclipsed tea as the Viennese hot beverage of choice, to discuss all manner of cultural and intellectual concerns, face to face, undistracted. The Stock Exchange of that day was conceptualized and created in a local coffee house.

Coffee houses still exist today but Cafe' Society proposes a more social alternate to a computer screen. Discussion, locally produced art and music and good coffee and food. Need we say more?

Welcome to the first day of Spring! To celebrate we will be meeting at the casually elegant Charmers Cafe of Rogers Park. Coffee tasting and chatting until 8pm.

Friends of Bill Morton Spring Fire
Sherwin on the Lake. 9pm
RSVP required

If you are friends with Bill Morton, you belong here.

Welcome to the first day of Spring! Stop by, and bring some wine or snacks. I will provide the private beach and the bonfire.

Covering Up Graffiti in Rogers Park

There is no question that the graffiti problem is a large concern for local business owners and home owners in Rogers Park. Along the side of Parkside Gyros near Touhy Park, a new strategy is in place to cover vandalism and deter future tagging by local gangs.

I had an opportunity to comment on the situation with Michael Luckenbach earlier in the exact same location.

UrbanTurf recognizes two Rogers Park blogs as influential

UrbanTurf Chicago Real Estate Guide writer Jacqueline Zenn highlights some of Chicago's top neighborhood blogs and their influence on real estate and home ownership.

Zenn writes "While spending time in a given area is by far the best way to get to know what makes it interesting and special, it is hardly practical for most. However, prospective home buyers and potential new residents can check out the many independently-run neighborhood blogs as a way to get a quick primer on the various facets and idiosyncrasies of a given area".

She goes on to mention two Rogers Park blogs, The Broken Heart of Rogers Park and Rogers Park in 1,000 Words "Written by long-time resident Bill Morton, this blog offers a slightly more positive view of Rogers Park with excellent visuals (a picture being worth a thousand words and all)".

Other blogs deemed worthy of checking out by UrbanTurf include Sloopin (South Loop), Hard Scrabbler (Bridgeport), Hyde Park Progress, Uptown Update and Edgewater Community Buzz.

The full article, The Value of Chicago’s Neighborhood Blogs to Home Buyers by Jacqueline Zenn can be read in it's entirety here.

The Dark Lighthouse

It is a sad, terrible story.

The Lighthouse is closed after decades when owner dies.

What were your favorite memories with John or at The Lighthouse?
