Extra Groovy comment - A key to discouraging developers?

Rogers Park in 1,000 Words has recently been flirting with Curbed Chicago... a story picked up, a link back and a thank you here and there. Not the biggest deal to ever hit the Far North Side, but very cool never-the-less.

So, I have been reviewing their archives on Rogers Park and came across a comment on their April 19th, 2011 story A 2BD, 1BA in "Extra Groovy" Rogers Park for $165,000.

I'll post a portion of it here to make the point:

Um, most of the condos in Rogers Park are on their way to a value of zero. It's nothing but foreclosures up there, not to mention the crime.

I've personally seen horrible tragedies destroy our neighborhood recently concerning development plans, developers and always involving campaign contributions. I find the demolition of our history and culture a plague of our neighborhood. The plans, of course, more-often-than-not fall through leaving dangerous unsecure eyesore holes in the ground for years if not a decade.

I could list many examples of the once-beauty made blight; The Adelphi Theater, The Wisdom Bridge Theatre, the property on the Southwest corner of Sheridan and Albion...
Extensive damage has already been done, but what could discourage flaky developers from further *sodomizing our home?

*use of the term "sodomy" is restricted to rape cases where anal penetration has taken place.

The destruction of the adelphi theater was pretty dumb, clark already has its troubles and has too many minimalls, and this didnt help.

It was just the at the height of crazy speculation pie in the sky crap. Id rather have it sitting there molding away because atleast there would still be hope it could be restored.

The buildings at the corner of albion and sheridan were doomed ofcourse because they were owned by Loyola, too bad they werent owned privately.
